Nonna's best sunday gravy! Shhh, don't tell her we didn't use olive oil!!
4 jars of homemade canned tomatoes OR (4) 28 oz cans of crushed tomatoes
3 tbsp Smart Balance Omega Oil
½ Vidalia onion, diced
2 tbsp minced garlic
¾ cup dry white wine
1 tsp sugar
2 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp dried basil
½ cup fresh basil
10 minutes
1 - 2 hours

If using the homemade canned tomatoes, pass through a food mill and be sure to scrape all the pulp off the bottom of the mill. Set aside. If using the crushed tomatoes, they are ready to go out of the can. |

In a large saucepan, heat the oil and onion over medium heat for 5 minutes. |

STEP 3: |

|
Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds more, do not burn. |
|

STEP 4: |

Add the tomatoes and the remaining ingredients (EXCEPT the fresh basil) and continue to cook over medium heat for 1-2 hours, or until the sauce has thickened. (It will depend on the tomatoes) |

Add in the freshly torn basil leaves just before serving over your favorite pasta! |
