Rev Up Your Workout! 10 Easy Tips

1. Enlist a buddy. This adds a social dimension and helps keep you both accountable.

2. Choose a charity race, fun run, or fundraising walk to train for. Knowing that your hard work will not only improve your health but will also benefit others is a great incentive.

3. Buy yourself some fun active wear or sports gear—something you can’t wait to try out.

4. Join a class or a gym. Making a financial commitment provides an extra reason to show up.

5. Take it outside. Some health clubs have specific outdoor programs to help keep you motivated.

6. Reward yourself when you reach a goal. Finally made your target time for running a mile? Treat yourself to a facial or other indulgence.

7. Incorporate exercise into your day. Jog when you walk the dog, dash up a flight of stairs, or squeeze in a few crunches during TV time.

8. If you’re just beginning an exercise regimen, start slowly and know your limits. Too much too fast will make you resent your workout.

9. Slow down. Keeping too busy can increase stress, so you lose your mental edge and overall motivation. Take some “me time”—even just 15 minutes a day—to meditate or unwind.

10. Try something new. See “Fun Ways to Get Moving,” below, for more great ways to work out.
